Every family, every individual who comes to Amicus arrives at a different crossroads – but all share a common need: support, clarity, and progress.
Here’s what your journey with us typically looks like.
Step 1: How You Come to Us
Clients often find their way to Amicus through
one of three paths:
1. Referral by a law firm – when lawyers recognise that a family needs psychological or emotional support alongside legal work.
2. Self-referral – when individuals or families reach out directly for guidance and intervention.
3. Word of mouth – through others who have walked this journey with us and share their experience. Whichever path brings you here, the journey begins with understanding where you are – and where you hope to go.
Step 2: The Intake Assessment
Your first step with us is an intake assessment. This session helps us understand your needs, your situation, and your desired outcomes. From here, we determine which path best fits
your goals:
1. Clinical Track – for those seeking therapeutic support, emotional healing, psychological assessment, and mental
well-being.
2. Coaching Track – for those looking to build insight, develop strategies, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
Step 3: Entering the Collaborative Circle
Once your track is determined, you will begin your journey with your dedicated consultant – a psychologist or counsellor on the clinical track, or a coach on the coaching track.
From the start, this is not a top-down process. It is a collaborative process – where you and your consultant work together, as partners in your progress.
One of the first tools we use is the Wheel of Life framework. It is a simple yet powerful self-assessment tool that helps you reflect on different areas of your life – such as career, relationships, health, and personal growth – and identify where balance may be missing.
Together, you and your consultant use this reflection to set meaningful, achievable goals and create a roadmap for change.
Step 4: Crafting the Plan
With a clearer understanding of your needs and
aspirations, your consultant helps you codevelop a treatment or coaching plan.
This plan is holistic and may involve collaboration with others who are part of your life or case – such as lawyers, psychiatrists, educators, or family members.
Our goal is to create a coherent strategy that integrates both psychological and practical dimensions, so progress is both measurable and meaningful.
Step 5: The Journey of Change
Once the plan is in place, your sessions begin.
If you are on the clinical track, this involves therapeutic sessions focused on insight, healing, and resilience. If you are on the coaching track, the focus is on clarity, skill
development, and growth.
Throughout the process, your consultant works with compassion, empathy, and empowerment – ensuring that while care is human and kind, progress remains focused and intentional.
You may begin to see:
1. New coping strategies emerging
2. Healthier communication patterns
3. Improved relationships
4. Renewed confidence and selfunderstanding
This is where the real work – and real change –
happens.
Step 6: Re-entering the Collaborative Circle
After a period of work, we return to the collaborative circle – a point of reflection and recalibration. Here, your consultant may reconnect with relevant collaborators (lawyers,
doctors, educators, family members) to ensure alignment and track progress.
At this stage, we often draw upon the PERMA Framework developed by psychologist Martin Seligman. PERMA stands for:
• Positive Emotions
• Engagement
• Relationships
• Meaning
• Accomplishment
This framework helps measure and understand your well-being, not just by the absence of problems, but by the presence of flourishing – how deeply you are engaging in life, finding meaning, and achieving growth.
Step 7: Closing the Journey
When your goals have been met and your progress consolidated, we move towards session termination – the completion of your Amicus journey.
This is not an abrupt ending but a thoughtful evaluation of what has been achieved:
1. How the process unfolded
2. What outcomes were reached
3. How the relationship and collaboration
supported your growth
If outcomes can be measured, we do so. When both your consultant and you agree that the journey has fulfilled its purpose, we conclude – with the assurance that you leave
stronger, clearer, and more equipped for the road ahead.
In Essence
At Amicus, your journey is never just about managing a problem – it is about striving for balance, cultivating growth, and achieving satisfied outcomes, where there are some levels of efficiencies and effectiveness in areas like the sense of self, desirable behaviours, general well-being and living one’s dream.
Every step is collaborative, every process intentional, each step building some form of competence, commitment and confidence to go through the challenges. And in the midst of it, retain, find or enhance one’s purpose, identity, creativity and relationships.
